Tailgating Infinity G35 honks, harasses while slow passing, then nearly hits me
26 Jun, 2020 - 6 years ago - on North Van Ness Boulevard The bridge on Van Ness is one of the few places where there's enough room to pull over to let people pass. I was planning on pulling over there to let this Infinity driver go by, but instead he starts honking, and driving aggressively. Which made it a very unsafe place to pull over.
I have some rear video footage of this incident that shows him swerve to the right like he was going to pass on the right, so I just decided to hold my line and watch him carefully in my rear view mirror to see what evasive action I might need to take to not get killed.
Then when he's passing, he just stays in the incoming traffic lane to tell me something about being "I don't think you're allowed to ride like that," and other such nonsense until he almost causes an accident. Then he nearly hits me in his rush to suddenly get back in the right lane.
In California, bicyclists are required to ride as close to the right side of the road as "practicable", which means safe. Not as close to the right as possible. We can utilize the entire traffic lane to prevent unsafe passes roads where the lane is too narrow for a bicycle and vehicle to share the space. CVC 21202 (a)(3).
